The mainstream media seems to be brushing this story under the carpet but it is pretty certain already that we know the source of the pet food contamination: China.

Menu Foods Income Fund, maker of the tainted pet foods at the center of March’s massive recall, said on Friday it is no longer using a Chinese supplier of wheat gluten after U.S. officials found the chemical melamine in some of the recalled products.

Malamine is a prohibited substance in American pet food according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. However, malamine is a widely accepted fertilizer in China.

Menu Foods stopped using its Chinese supplier on March 6, 10 days before the recall was announced, Paul Henderson, Menu Foods’ president and chief executive, told a news conference in Toronto.

Menu Foods said all of the wheat glutin tainted by melamine came from the Chinese supplier. The FDA seems on the verge of confirming this.

We’ve been chasing this story with dogged determination.

In some Asian countries, Americans and Canadians may be shocked to learn, the dog doesn’t have the lofty status it has in some western households. In much of Asia, the dog itself is a food product and not a family member.

There is also some cynicism among some Asians about the way westerns look at and treat their pets. When the communists took Saigon in 1975, for example, one of the first new laws prohibited dogs and cats as pets. In fact, any pets were considered “decadent western symbols.” Any animals kept by a family had to become a food source and not merely a food consumer.

So case closed, Mrs. Mcarthy, who appeared on TV to mourn the loss of her “best friend” “Arnie” the cocker spaniel: China killed your dog.

We are indebted to Ms. Teresa Holladay who runs the blog at:

Teresa informed us that there was a shortage of wheat glutin from sources other than China because of previous contamination problems that also killed animals.

I knew the Pet Food Recall would get worse. You can’t tell me that there was one teeny tiny wheat field in China that went into one little container that was delivered to one single, solitary manufacturer. Do you know why there was a shortage of wheat gluten from the European suppliers? They had a little contamination problem that killed animals down in South Africa. The details are on my Safe Pet Food blog at http://IsYourPetFoodSafe.com.

I have another news item for you, John. Somebody is seriously tracking this down… That Chinese company was all over the Internet posting requests for melamine!

And this week, they somehow poisoned a whole bunch of people with rat poison in their cereal. When you say, “rat poison”, we think, wow, somebody put RAT POISON in their food? Now, we in the United States can tell you, don’t worry, it’s simply the fertilizer they use on the fields that goes in the wheat that goes on your cereal.
