University of Minnesota officials are evacuating seven buildings on campus, mainly around Northrop Mall, in response to a bomb threat.

Early this afternoon, a professor in Smith Hall found a note that included a bomb threat against a number of buildings on the University of Minnesota campus, University officials said.

The evacuated buildings include Kohltoff, Smith, Frasier, Johnston and Morrill halls as well as Walter Library and the Science Classroom Building.

All classes and meetings in these buildings have been canceled for the rest of the day, officials said in a statement.

Students are being asked to return to their dorms or off-campus housing and not congregate in the Northrop Mall area.

U officials are setting up an information center at 2221 Univ. Ave.

The Pioneer Press will be updating as more information becomes available.
