4.10pm: North Korea ‘fires another missile’ North Korea appears to have fired another missile that may have landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone, according to Japanese broadcaster NHK.

2pm: North Korea threatens to hit US with ’nuclear hammer’

North Korea has threatened to hit the US with a “nuclear hammer” after the CIA warned Kim Jong-un’s leadership was “most dangerous” element to the nuclear threat.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo hinted at trying to separate the despot from his nuclear stockpile, adding the he was sure the Northn Korea people “would love to see him go as well”.

North Korea has hit back, threatening to “annihilate” America with nuclear weapons if the US should dare to even attempt to remove Kim Jong-un.

“Should the US dare to show even the slightest sign of attempt to remove our supreme leadership, we will strike a merciless blow at the heart of the US with our powerful nuclear hammer, honed and hardened over time,” the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reports, citing a spokesperson of the North’s foreign ministry.

1pm: Women appear in court accused of murdering Kim Jong-namThe trial of two women accused of killing the estranged half brother of North Korea’s leader will begin on October 2, Malaysia’s High Court said.

Indonesian Siti Aisyah, 25, and Doan Thi Huong, 28, from Vietnam, are charged with murdering Kim Jong-nam at Kuala Lumpur airport on February 13 by smearing his face with VX, a chemical the UN describes as a weapon of mass destruction.

Both appeared in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, where the date for the trial was decided. They could face the death penalty if convicted.

Noon: US commander prepared to follow President’s orders for nuclear strike The U.S. Pacific Fleet commander, addressing a security conference in Australia, said in answer to a question on Thursday that he would be prepared to launch a nuclear strike on China if President Donald Trump so ordered.

The fleet spokesman later said the question was asked as an “outrageous hypothetical”.

Admiral Scott Swift was speaking at the Australian National University in Canberra when he was asked whether he would be prepared to launch a nuclear attack on China if ordered to do so by Trump.

“The answer would be yes,” he said.
